Deities travel by flight, too
Labuan: These days, not just humans need to get from one point to another by air – even the Gods have no choice!

After all it was supposed to be their reunion.

Some travelled by air to Singapore as passengers while others by road or even ferries for the same purpose, recently.

The deities which travelled by air had international passports including an identification card. On arrival most of them were chauffeured to the venue of the event.

A temple from here was among those that participated in the religious event with a team escorting the diety to China to its original home before attending the reunion in Singapore.

Upon arrival here from Singapore via Kota Kinabalu and then on ferry to Labuan a grand welcome was also accorded at the ro-ro ferry terminal with lion dance troupes, a float, and temple banners on Saturday evening.

This was not the first time such a reunion was held. A mammoth one was held in Koashiung, Taiwan on Dec 25, 2016 which set two records.

It drew 10,000 worshippers and devotees from various countries and the number of varities of deities on that occasion was 685 from various shrines, temples and even churches which sent statues of Mother Mary, Baby Jesus and St Joseph from Philippines.

The event was described as “When Buddha Meets the Gods (Reunion of Religious Association)”. It had 2,188 numbers of statues of deities.

The event was officiated by the Most Venerable Abbot of Fo Guan monastery Hsin Bao he said it marked a new milestone in religious cooperation, respect and tolerance since statues and deities from Buddhism, Taoisim, Confucian and Catholicism were featured.
