CNY bazaar set to enliven Sandakan town
SANDAKAN: Some 15 associations, under The United Chinese Communities of Sandakan Sabah, enthusiastically support the Chinese New Year Bazaar Old Slipway Sandakan 2020.

The associations will participate in the Chinese New Year Bazaar Old Slipway Sandakan 2020, sparking a sense of nostalgic atmosphere in the bazaar. 

According to Organising Chairlady, Liau Fui Fui, there are currently 40 booths registered for the Chinese New Year Bazaar, of which 25 are vendors and 15 are the associations. 

In addition to Chinese New Year products that will be sold at the bazzar, visitors can also have the opportunity to taste the traditional flavours of various ethnic food, such as Hakka braised pork belly with yam, Guangdong sweet-scented osmanthus cake, Hainan chicken rice and so forth.

The 15 associations are Fui Tung Onn Association, Sandakan, Hing Ann Association Sandakan, Hua Chung Association Sandakan, The Hockien Association Sandakan, Shiau Fu Association Sandakan, Sandakan Sze Yip Association, Foochow Association Sandakan, Sandakan Poon Yue Association, Nam Hoi Association Sandakan, The Tsan Shing Association, Sandakan, Hainan Association Sandakan, Sandakan Hakka Association, Sabah Chung San Association, Teo Chew Association Sandakan and The Sandakan Shun Tak Association. 

Liau said that the urban development; especially, the migration of the Chinese community, which has gradually caused the well known “Little Hong Kong” losing its glamour. 

Therefore, the Chinese New Year Bazaar Old Slipway Sandakan 2020 will be held for 6 days at Old Slipway in Sandakan downtown, to take the lead to liven up Sandakan town. 

Although encountering numerous challenges, Liau said she will go all out to take the lead to bring back the glamour of the old days to Sandakan downtown. 

“We hope that the people in Sandakan, especially the Chinese community will give their full support to help bring back the liveliness to Sandakan downtown. 

“We believe that such atmosphere will attract more tourists to Sandakan in the near future,” she said.

This newly planned Chinese New Year Bazaar Old Slipway Sandakan 2020 is organised by Tanjung Papat Assemblyman Datuk Frankie Poon Ming Fung in collaboration with Sandakan Municipal Council (MPS) and Pertubuhan Suria Harapan Sabah.

The road will be closed at 3:30pm during the Chinese New Year Bazaar Old Slipway Sandakan 2020 from 18 January (Saturday) to 23 January.
