Jailed 7 months for threatening to kill man
KOTA KINABALU: A 37-year-old man was jailed seven months by the Magistrate’s Court on Friday for threatening to kill a man.

Ahmad Fandi Ali Omar pleaded guilty to criminally intimidating Mohd Junaidy Nordin at 8.30am on Oct 28 at a foodstall at Kg Peringatan, Petagas.

Magistrate Lovely Natasha Charles was informed by the prosecution that while Junaidy was having breakfast at the premises, Ahmad assaulted him.

Ahmad also threatened to kill Junaidy, the court heard.

The offence under Section 506 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to two years or fine or both, upon conviction.

Unrepresented, Ahmad requested for leniency saying that he has five dependants as well as elderly parents.

Assistant Superintendent of Police Ag Adnan Pg Bakar applied for an adequate sentence.

Adnan also informed the court that Ahmad was recently fined RM2,000 by another magistrate for the assault offence under Section 323 of the Penal Code.

Meanwhile, two men were penalised for committing illegal gambling-related activities.

Al Sahid Al Humad, 21, was fined RM2,500 or four months jail for engaging in an illegal online gambling activity.

He admitted to committing the offence at 3.35pm on Dec 4 at a premises along Jalan Haiwan in Likas.

The charge under Section 6(1) of the Common Gaming House Act provides for a fine of up to RM5,000 or a jail term of up to six months or both, upon conviction.

Soni Ekim, 35, was also fined RM2,500 or four months jail for having illegal 4D lottery paraphernalia.

Soni pleaded guilty to having three slips of illegal 4D lottery, a handphone and RM300 cash at 4.30pm on Nov 7 at the JJ Phone Shop in Inanam new township.

He was charged under Section 9(1) of the Common Gaming House Act which provides for a fine of up to RM5,000 or up to six months jail, upon conviction.

The court heard that police raided the premises respectively and detained Al Sahid and Soni separately after they were found committing the offences.
