Dangerous weapon: Man gets 7 years

KOTA KINABALU: A man was jailed seven years for having a steel file which was modified into a machete in public place without a permit.
Sessions Court Judge Azreena Aziz handed the sentence to Sani Labok after ruling that the prosecution had proven its case beyond reasonable doubt.

Sani was found guilty of having the weapon at 9.25pm on June 27 at the customer service counter near the main entrance of the Imago Shopping Mall, here.
He was convicted under Section 6(1) of the Corrosives and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958 which carries a jail term of between five and 10 years, upon conviction.

The court ordered Sani to serve the jail sentence from the date of his arrest on June 27. After completing his jail sentence, Sani was ordered to be placed under police supervision for two years.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Nureen Natasha Mohd Raffie conducted for the prosecution while Sani was not represented. Several witnesses were called during the hearing. – Cynthia D Baga
