THE Water Department immediately acted on a public complaint about precious treated water gushing out from a main pipe at the roadside in front of Grand Merdeka at Tuaran road, in Telipok, on Dec 8.
Its spokeswoman, when contacted on that day, said the problem was due to vandalism.

“Someone had purposely tampered with the air valve of the pipe,” she added.
Apart from locking the valve, she said it had carried out measures to prevent similar problem from occurring in the future as well.
“We don’t want a repeat of the incident because the water pressure to end users will be affected,” she added.
ROSLI, who lives in the nearby Bandar Sierra, said he noticed the pipe burst when he drove past the area around 9am on that day.

“I cannot imagine the amount of water that had went to waste on that day because water was still shooting out onto the road and into the roadside drain when I came back around noon,” he added.
He hoped the relevant authority would act on it soon as possible in view of the water problem that many consumers in the suburb have been facing since last year. (OV)
