People’s support needed for developing Sabah: CM
PENAMPANG: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal said the State Government has the recipe and resources for developing Sabah, but only needs support of the people.

“Rest assured, don’t worry, under this current government, change will come. My hope is that support can be given to us. “The recipe for developing Sabah sudah ada (already there) and we have all the resources. We need to ensure that the plan for change we are doing is not just us talking about it...we must set up the structure.

“This is what we are fighting for, what we are working on. Sometimes we know it is not easy but I am confident that we will be able to do it well.

“This is what we have hoped, by making changes the existing environment in Sabah will change. We will ensure that we will improve the situation in Sabah,” he said, when officiating the Donggongon Christmas Wonderland & New Year 2020 held near the Datuk Peter Mojuntin Statue, Saturday.

Mohd Shafie also encouraged all people in Sabah to take part in every celebration like Christmas not only for strengthening existing relationship between them, but also as a show of respect to each other.

“Celebrating every celebration is a show of respect to each other. It is meaningless to only know other cultures but do not respect them. You don’t expect to be respected if you don’t respect others as well,” he said.

Meanwhile, Mohd Shafie is confident that his meeting with Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad soon to discuss on the oil royalty increase to 20 per cent, from presently 5 per cent, would bear fruitful result.

“I told Dr Mahathir we must have the 20 per cent oil royalty increase because we have campaigned about it during the last general election.

“Even if cannot get it, there should be money. Even if we do not get the percentage, (but) the money must be there. We need the money for Sabah because the oil and gas come from the State of Sabah....this is important for us,” he said.

There is no need to quarrel with the Federal Government on the matter, said Mohd Shafie, adding he don’t want to use the matter as a political issue because to him, the most important is to “work more, talk less.

“We don’t need to talk too much, like the opposition. They (opposition) didn’t do anything when they were in the government,” he said.
