M’sia a vital node on 21st century Maritime Silk Road
FUZHOU CITY: Sabah China Chamber of Commerce (SCCC) President Datuk Frankie Liew was invited to the Fujian Consumer Goods Sourcing Fair and Commercial District (Pedestrian Streets) Expo held from December 12 to 15 here. 

The objectives of the expo are to promote the economic development of the commercial district, stimulate domestic demand and create a platform for business matching. The business-to-business (B2B) platform aims to promote products produced in Fujian province to the domestic and international markets. 

The inaugural expo spans 280,000 square metres showcasing 569 exhibitors. 

On December 12 shopping festival, close to 400 Fujian local products were offered at major discounts at the event. Russian chocolate, honey and machinery as well as Malaysian durian, coffee, condiments and bird’s nest and other foreign products are also available at the exhibition. 

Additionally, the expo has invited e-commerce giants such as Alibaba, Meituan, Amazon and JD.com to showcase their products and services. 

One of the main highlights of the event is none other than the launching of China (Fujian) – Malaysia Economic and Trade Cooperation Conference organised by the Fujian Provincial Department of Commerce and Consulate General of Malaysia in Guangzhou.

Fujian Provincial Department of Commerce Director Wu Nanxiang said Malaysia was an important node on the 21st century Maritime Silk Road and one of the first countries to respond to the Belt and Road initiative. 

He said Malaysia has a conducive business climate and thriving manufacturing and services industry, which could strongly complement the trade sector in Fujian. 

Hence, Wu hoped that Malaysian entrepreneurs would explore the business and collaboration opportunities presented in the expo. 

Meanwhile, Consul General of Malaysia (Investment Section) Investment Consul Nazuki Abdullah said Malaysia would continue to support to Belt and Road initiative to realise collaboration and development under the cooperation framework. 

He said the country’s economy was highly diversified with solid foundation in the manufacturing sector and a well-established legal system. 

“Malaysia has close trade relations with Fujian province and I hope both parties would continue to deepen cooperation in the field of technology, innovations and high-end services.”

It was learned that the Fujian Provincial Department of Commerce and Malaysia-China Chamber of Commerce will jointly organize the 10th Malaysia China Entrepreneur Congress in Fujian next year. 

Also present was SCCC Advisor Datuk Wilson Yong.
