Peter, who is also Tenom Assemblyman, said this while visiting the flooded area in Kg Ponontomon on Thursday during which he delivered food aid, among other supplies, to the affected victims.
“It is important for the victims to be supplied with rice. With rice, they can cook and eat depending on what’s available,” he said while visiting more than 200 victims at a flood evacuation centre before visiting other flood-hit areas in Kg Pantongan and Kg Mandalom.
Responding to a question regarding frequent floods especially towards end of year, he said it is due to the monsoon season that causes the water in the Padas River to overflow each time after heavy rain.
“What’s more important is how we solve the issue. It is understood that the Government has framed appropriate steps in handling the flooding issue,” he said.
