All flood victims in Tenom, Kemabong return home
TENOM: A total of 1,564 flood victims from 16 villages who sought shelter at 15 flood relief centres here and sub-district Kemabong have returned home by Saturday afternoon.

District Natural Disaster Chairman Sungkim Rumangun, who announced the closure of all relief centres, said the water level at Sungai Padas here and in Kemabong returned to normal at 157.50 metres and 193.43 metres, respectively.

“Three roads which were earlier impassable due to the flood few days ago namely Jalan Enubai, Jalan Pantongan Sapong and Jalan Binsilon Tumantalik are now accessible to all types of vehicles.

“Fortunately, no schools were affected by the recent floods here and Kemabong,” he told Daily Express, Saturday.

Sungkim also thanked all enforcement and government departments such as police, Fire and Rescue Department personnel, Rela, Civil Defence Department (APM) personnel, Welfare Department, Health Department, Tenom District Office and Tenom District Council, among others.

In BEAUFORT, the Malaysian Relief Agency (MRA) through the Interior Secretariat visited flood victims at the Temporary Relief Centre (PPS) in Selagon, Saturday.

They also handed over donation in the form of hygiene packs to all the victims. MRA Representative Norizhuan Awang said PPS, which has been open since Thursday, received flood victims from several villages in Beaufort and Membakut.

He said more than 300 people have been placed in PPS due the continuous flooding around the two districts.

“We are saddened with the hardship faced by the victims, so today we are here to visit them and see what kind of assistance that we can provide.

“We have also presented 150 hygiene packs to the victims so that they can always maintain their cleanliness and health,” he told Daily Express when met here.

He said Sabah MRA not only provide relief in Beaufort, but also to other areas affected by floods such as in Kudat, Tenom and Kemabong.

“As a non-governmental organisation that will always aware to those who in need, we also need donation from the public so we need the support and donations to help those affected by the disaster.

“The donations will also be used to all types of disasters such as fire and others,” he said.

People can donate through the Maybank Malaysian Relief Agency (Sabah) with an account number of 5602 4102 1056 which will be channeled to the Sabah Flood Relief Fund. For more information, please contact the Sabah MRA Office at 013 337 3316.
