Tenom: Residents of Kampung Rayoh, about 13km from here, have to use a trolley to go to Tenom town to buy necessities following a landslide that buried part of the railway line in their village on Dec 21 midnight.Kampung Rayoh Village Chief, Sitong Kainsor, said the problem had been reported to the department concerned and hoped it can carry out repair work soon as possible for the convenience of the villagers.

“The villagers also need to walk on piles of soil from the landslide to get to the other side of the railway line that is unaffected,” he lamented.

He said the landslide occurred between Kampung Rayoh and Kampung Pangi.

“The problem is not new as it had happened in the past,” said Sitong.

According to him, 300 villagers in Kampung Rayoh, covering Kampung Batu 75 Baru and Batu 75 Lama, are relying on the rail service, as it is their only means of transport to go to the Tenom town.

He said there were no other forms of communication available such as road.

“The situation is worrying residents as they have no other choice but to use a trolley and tread through a dangerous stretch of piles of soil,” he said.

Sitong urged the Government to pay more attention to the wellbeing and welfare of the villagers of Kampung Rayoh and Kampung Pangi by looking for new ways such as building a road linking the Tenom town and Kampung Rayoh.

He also suggested that the department, in the event of a landslide between the Tenom town and Kampung Rayoh, use the rail service from Along Gilat to Rayoh for the convenience of Rayoh villagers to go to Beaufort town to buy necessities while waiting for repair work to be done.

He said the villagers who were celebrating Christmas faced many difficulties when going to the Tenom town to buy necessities because of the landslide.

“Due to the landslide, the railway service was halted, pending repair work to be carried out.”
