Bid to smuggle 7 containers of booze into Labuan foiled
LABUAN: Labuan Customs Department foiled an attempt to smuggle in various types of alcoholic beverages, with estimated pre-tax value of RM616,000, at the Labuan Liberty Wharf, Thursday.

According to a Customs spokesman, the items seized from seven containers were declared as oil production equipment instead of alcoholic beverages.

The spokesman said the total seizure has not been finalised but the estimation was based on the capacity of each 20-footer container, adding that the goods have been removed from the Labuan Liberty Wharf yard.

“The alcoholic beverages believed to have been imported from Singapore have been sent to our enforcement unit in Kiamsam today,” the spokesman said when contacted.

He said the agency was in the midst of hunting down those responsible for the smuggling and the contraband goods were believed to be for local distribution.
