Hafidzi Zakaria is Sabah Ports' new Operations General Manager

KOTA KINABALU: Capt. Hafidzi Zakaria (pic) is the new General Manager of Operations of Sabah Ports Sdn Bhd.

Capt. Hafidzi, 46, was formerly General Manager of Container Business for Penang Port Sdn. Bhd and has 26 years experience in marine services and container operations leadership roles.  

A marine pilot holding a Masters of Foreign Going Certificate of Competency from Malaysian Maritime Academy, Capt. Hafidzi started his career as a seafarer with MISC Bhd after completing his cadetship in 1991. He held various on board positions before joining Penang Port as a marine pilot.

In Penang Port, he predominantly served and managed the container operations division whereby he was accountable for the container business growth, developing the division’s infrastructure and superstructure as well as maintaining stakeholder relationship.  

As the General Manager of Operations, his current portfolio includes overseeing port operation performance, port productivity and strengthening the support services division, in particular the Port Auxiliary Police and Health, Safety and Environment department across the eight ports operated by Sabah Ports which are Sapangar Bay Container Port, Sapangar Bay Oil Terminal, Kota Kinabalu Port, Sandakan Port, Tawau Port, Lahad Datu Port, Kunak Port and Kudat Port.

“I am looking forward to working with the Sabah Ports team. My main priority is to improve the efficiency and services of the container, bulk and liquid terminals and overall enhance Sabah Ports’ competitiveness in the region.  

“I aim to broaden the ports business base and strive for continuous terminal improvement through global certifications and accreditations,” he said.

His appointment now completes Sabah Ports’  executive management line – up comprising Ng Kiat Min (Managing Director), Siti Noraishah Azizan (General Manager - Corporate Services) and Lai Fui Nar (General Manager - Technical and Process Improvement).
