Body of man reported missing in Ranau found

RANAU: The body of a local who was reported missing while fishing at the Kogibangan River, near Kampung Bitoon, here, last Sunday was recovered on Wednesday.

Junaidi Jaukan, 32, was found by villagers and rescuers at about 1.30pm, floating in the Liwagu River, near Kg Miruru, about 25km from where the victim was reported missing.

District Police Chief DSP Sammy Newton (pic) confirmed that the victim’s family had been called in to identify the victim.

“The remains were taken to the Ranau Hospital for post-mortem and the case has been classified as sudden death,” he told reporters.

Meanwhile, Ranau Fire and Rescue Chief Ridwan Mohd Taib said the SAR operation, which entered the third day on Wednesday, was successful when the body of the victim was found.

“At 1.29pm, we received a call from the officer in charge of the operation, PBK II Wasli Saupin, that a man was found floating in a river near Kg Miruru by villagers and rescuers,” he said. – George Dol
