Year’s biggest KB Syabu bust
KOTA BELUD: Police here arrested two distributors of Syabu in Kg Taun Gusi and Kampung Jawi-Jawi.

Kota Belud Police Chief Supt  Mohd Zaidi Abdullah said 51.67gm of the drug was seized from distributors from Taun Gusi. it was estimated worth RM7,750.

“Meanwhile, 5.23gm was seized at Kg Jawi-Jawi worth some RM784. The case will be investigated under Section 39b Adb 1952. They face death or life imprisonment and rotan if convicted.”

According to Mohd Zaidi, it was the biggest seizure for 2020 by the Kota Belud IPD Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division.

He said that on Jan 1 from 3pm to 6pm, Kota Belud’s IPD Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division conducted Op Sarang around the district.

The operation led by Insp Mohd Yusri Yaakob, head of the Kota Belud Narcotics Crime Investigation Division went to several villages suspected to be drug trafficking areas.

“At about 5.30pm while in Kg Kesapang, they saw a man sitting in front of a paddy field,

“When police identified themselves, he tried to escape but were arrested. A search inside the cloth bag found 12 plastic packets containing crystals of suspected syabu.

“Investigations revealed that the suspect is a Malaysian citizen of Kg Taun Gusi, aged 40 and has a record of previous arrest.  

“The suspect obtained supplies from Kota Kinabalu and distributed them in Kg Kesapang area. The suspect’s customers consist of Kota Belud patrons and nearby Kota Marudu.

The suspect will be remanded for seven days for further investigation.

The seizure of 5.23gm of syrup is investigated under Section  39a (1) Adb 1952. At about 4.30pm, police conducted an operation in the Kg Rampayan Sea area, saw a man walking around holding a brown bag on the sidewalk.

Upon arrest and inspection, police found a plastic packet containing crystals of suspected Syabu.

The suspect is a local and was remanded four days.

Investigations found that the drugs were meant for the village resorts, Kg Tamau, Kg Nanamun and surrounding villages

The suspect obtained supplies from a dealer in Kota Kinabalu.

If convicted he faces up to five years imprisonment and whipping.
