Zii Jia eyes a return during his match against Shi Yuqi.
Kuala Lumpur: Malaysia’s top men’s singles shuttler Lee Zii Jia maintained his fine run at the Malaysia Masters by advancing to the semi-finals on Friday.

The world No. 14 claimed another major scalp when he beat China’s world No. 8 Shi Yu Qi in the quarter-finals at the Axiata Arena, Bukit Jalil.

Zii Jia had earlier on Wednesday ousted Denmark’s world No. 4 Anders Antonsen in the first round.

In Friday’s match the Malaysian battled for 69 minutes before triumphing over his Chinese opponent 12-21, 21-16, 21-19 much to the delight of the home fans.

The win also avenged Zii Jia’s defeat to the same opponent at the 2019 Sudirman Cup in Nanning, China.

However, a daunting task awaits Zii Jia in Saturday’s semi-final as his opponent will be none other than Japan’s world No. 1 Kento Momota who beat China’s Huang Yu Xiang 21-13, 19-21, 21-9.

The other semi-final will see Hong Kong’s Angus Ng Ka Long taking on either Denmark’s Viktor Axelsen or China’s Chen Long.

Angus booked his berth in the last four by defeating Indonesia’s Jonatan Christie 15-21, 21-12, 21-18.
