LD cops nab 12  and seize two  homemade guns

LAHAD DATU: Police detained 12 people, including seven illegal immigrants, and seized two homemade guns at Simpang Tamoi, here, on Thursday.

District Police Chief ACP Nasri Mansor said acting on information, his men conducted an operation at the area about 9pm and intercepted a lorry and a four-wheel-drive (4WD).

He said an inspection on the 4WD found eight individuals, including the driver, and six of the passengers failed to produce identification documents.

Four other individuals, including the driver, were found on the lorry, and one of the passengers failed to produce identification documents, he said, adding two homemade guns wrapped inside tyre tubes were also found on the 4WD. 

All 12 suspects comprising five women and seven men age between 4 and 62 as well as the seized items were taken to the police station for further action.

Nasri said those detained were believed to be heading to Tungku, Lahad Datu from Kampung Tempias, Ranau to work as plantation workers.

“Investigations are still ongoing under Section 55E of the Immigration Act and Section 8 of the Firearms Act 1960,” he added.
