Proton wins big at Malaysian auto awards

Kuala Lumpur: The Proton X70, which was launched on Dec 12, 2018, was named the Overall Car of the Year 2019, marking the first time a Proton model has won the prestigious award at the 18th Malaysia Cars of the Year awards.The Proton X70, the most popular premium C-segment sport utility vehicle (SUV) in Malaysia, also bagged the Midsize Crossover/Sports Utility Vehicles 5 Seaters category, while Proton’s chief executive officer (CEO) Dr Li Chunrong was honoured with the Automotive Man of the Year award.

“By being named the Automotive Man of the Year for 2019, Dr Li Chunrong becomes the third Proton CEO to be awarded the accolade,” the national car said in a statement Friday.
The recently updated Proton Saga was also a winner, claiming the Entry-Level Sedan and Hatchback prize. It has been attracting a lot of attention since it was launched on Aug 6, 2019.

The company also commissioned a new production facility in Tanjung Malim in 2019 and returned to profitability, which put it on the path to achieving its long-term goals. – Bernama
