RANAU: Seven locals were arrested in an operation for possession of a syabu on Saturday.

District police Deputy Superintendent DSP Sammy Newton in confirming the arrests said all the suspects were between 30 to 40 years.

“Four suspects will be investigated under Section 12 (2) Dangerous Drug Act 1952 for possession of a syabu drug with a total drug seizure of 1.05 Grammes.

“Meanwhile, three more suspects were investigated under Section 15 (1) (a) Dangerous Drug Act 1952 on suspicion of drugging into their bodies.

"All the suspects were detained at the District Police Headquarters (IPD) for further action," he told media on Sunday.

He said the operation was carried out by officers and members of the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division (BSJN) here beginning January 10, around Ranau.

According to Sammy, the success of the operation was a prolonged effort by the PDRM, especially the Ranau Police to address the problem of drug abuse, while preventing criminal activity in the area.

He also advised the public to inform the police on drugs activities in the area directly.

"The police assure that the identity of the informant will be kept confidential," he said.

DSP Sammy also asked parents to monitor their children's movements and activities. If suspicion arises because of a sudden change in behaviour, parents were urged to come forward immediately to make a police report.
