TELUPID: A 33-year-old woman was seriously injured after being accidentally shot by her husband’s “bakakuk” at their home in Kg Baba.

Beluran District Police Chief, Supt Kasim Muda, said the incident occurred about 4pm on Sunday when the victim’s 49-year-old husband was cleaning the home-made gun.

“The woman suffered serious injuries to her thighs and toes, and was sent to the Telupid Health Clinic before being transferred to the Duchess of Kent Hospital in Sandakan.

“The suspect, a farmer, was arrested after he surrendered himself,” said Kasim, adding the case will be investigated under Section 37 of the Firearms Act 1960.

He also advised people not to keep or possess firearms without a licence as it is an offence under Section 8 of the Firearms Act 1960.
