Tawau hospital’s RM2.3mil upgrade

TAWAU: The Tawau hospital plans to renovate the current ultrasound room so that it becomes a special room for placing new digital mammogram and ultrasound machines for those who cannot wait for construction of the new hospital building.
The estimated overall cost is RM2.3 million including the new mammogram machine costing RM1.7 million, the new ultrasound machine (RM145,000) as well as renovation which includes “lead lining” on the wall of the room (to prevent radiation) and office expansion.

State Assistant Minister-cum-Sri Tanjong Assemblyman Datuk Jimmy Wong, said the new mammogram machine is expected within this year and the hospital has decided to place it at the old building once the special room is ready.
He said this after a Chinese New Year walkabout while distributing Mandarin oranges to patients in the wards, following a visit to the ultrasound room which is going to be renovated.
The hospital also plans to renovate the male medical wards 5 and 6 to add 12 more beds while waiting for the completion of the new building.
According to him, the two respective wards were encountering a bed shortage problem and it is necessary to demolish the current office section in the ward to make way for new beds. The estimated cost for this project is about RM1 million.

However, Jimmy asked the Tawau hospital to compile two proposals with the estimated cost for the two projects and write in to the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Finance for the allocations.
