THE individual who treated a vast vacant land next to Shern En Methodist church at Lorong Fantasi, Mile 2.5, Tuaran road, in Likas, as a regular place to dump building waste stopped doing so when City Hall intervened not too long ago.

This issue was highlighted in the Hotline on Oct 1, last year, where the authority concerned was urged to check whether the latter was permitted to use the vacant land next to the church concerned for such purpose.

A representative from the church contacted Hotline recently to extend their gratitude to the City Hall for their action to put up a warning sign at the site concerned.

He initially complained that the mounds of construction waste there were an eye sore, apart from posing a safety and health hazard to the adjacent community.

“The dust problem was enormous in our area during windy days and snakes and rodents were often sighted coming into our compound from that land as well,” stressed SIM, the complainant.

He said City Hall must step in to stop the misuse of the land if there was no approval given to carry out the activity concerned in the first place.

“We hope such the misuse of the land for dumping construction and domestic waste will stop after we erected the notice,” its spokesman told Hotline, when contacted after New Year recently.

He urged the complainant to report to their attention at 088-210011 should the problem recurs in future.  (OV)
