Kota Kinabalu: The Reds Penampang team hammered seven goals past ICI Jasin Ex State Melaka in a friendly at the Penampang Stadium on Friday.

Despite the scoreline, the visitors actually started well in the early period but the host gradually took control of the game and managed to score three goals before the first half whistle.

G. Ravechandran played as midfielder in the opening 45th minute for Reds Penampang before turning up for his home state Melaka as the last man in the second half.

However, his presence could not prevent the much fitter home side’s players to score four more goals on a slippery pitch due to the rain.

Luck was also not on their side as they had several opportunities to reduce the deficit especially in the second half but to no avail.

The host who are Liverpool FC supporters’ club was led by chairman and also skipper Victor Disimon Simon with former State players, Charles Tindi, Paul Houpin, Lim Thau Ping and G. Ravechandran starting the match.

Victor had earlier said the purpose of the match was to reunite some of the ex-players from both teams and there will be a return match in Melaka later this year.

Meanwhile, Penampang District Football Association President Batholomew Jingulam watched the match from the stands with invited guests including President of Papar Sport Centre, SS Chung, President of Jesselton Reds Barry Bullah, and Slyvester Sitaun, chairman of Penampang Olds Boys and chairman of  Penampang Mimpaagat football club Slyvester Chin.
