KOTA KINABALU: Failure of the Government to fulfil its manifesto was one of the main factors of the people’s rejection in the Kimanis by-election result, said Sabah Pakatan Harapan (PH) Youth Secretary Razeef Rakimin.
Another contributing factor was the lack of public understanding of the Sabah Temporary Pass (PSS) issue.

“Despite various offers and allocations thrown during the campaign period, the people are now more aware of the bigger issues of economy and the failure of the government to fulfil the promises made in the 14th General Election,” he said in a statement, Saturday.
“Through the survey that we conducted prior to the nomination day, most of the people in Kimanis stated that they would reject Warisan (Parti Warisan Sabah).
“They said, aside from the government’s failures in administration, they were disheartened with the practice of cronyism and the arrogance of some leaders even though some of these individuals are Warisan supporters.”
Some did not believe that the government could fulfil its promises. “Even the power transition was seen to be blurry…some even argued that if the promise made by a coalition partner could not be fulfilled, let alone a promise to the people.”ADVERTISEMENT
To this end, Razeef urged the government to start reforming the system and the administration of the country – starting with an immediate power transfer between Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
“The government needs to remember that the people are now aware of their power to determine the government.

“What happened in Kimanis is a large-scale wave of people’s uprising to remind both Federal and State Governments on the promises made.

“The PH leaders also need to remember that if the people’s demands are not met immediately, it is feared that this will affect the PH’s performance in the coming Sarawak State Election,” he said.
