59 left homeless in Telipok settlement fire

TUARAN: About 59 people were left homeless after a fire swept through three blocks of a squatter settlement in Telipok here, Sunday.
In the 5.25am incident, the fire spread quickly, causing the residents to flee for their safety and unable to save their belongings.

Lintas Fire and Rescue Station Chief Agustavia Joe Guasi said they received a distress call at 5.30am.
“About 26 personnel from Lintas, Kota Kinabalu and Tuaran Fire and Rescue stations rushed to the location in three fire engines and one Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS).
“All three blocks including five vehicles were completely destroyed while two other vehicles were damaged due to the heat,” she said when contacted, Sunday.
According to Agustavia no fatalities were reported while investigations are underway to establish the cause of the fire.

“Firefighters managed to save 500 homes and a mosque before ending at 8.54am,” she said.
