‘Papagomo assault a black mark in Sabah’s history’

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Umno Youth said the assault by a group on their members at the Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA) on Sunday night was a “black mark” in Sabah’s history.
Sabah Umno Youth Chief, Ir. Abdul Aziz Julkarnain said it clearly showed that the group dared to challenge the law.

He said the attack resulted in injuries to one of its members. We would like to remind the young people of Sabah, especially the supporters of the Chief Minister, that the state is peaceful and wants a harmonious and respectful community.
“Be aware that the world is watching us. Violence and unrest within the airport should not have happened,” he said in a statement Monday.
Abdul Aziz said KKIA is among the busiest airports in the country and is packed with tourists.
Hence, the attack would scare tourists and create a negative perception that the country was no longer safe to visit.

“Be aware that our state’s revenue is highly dependent on the tourism sector and related services, which recorded a return of RM7.7billion or 40pc of our total revenue.
“The majority of the workers in the tourism sector are young Sabahans. We fear that the violence will result in tens of thousands of lost resources when tourists no longer come to the state,” he said.
