KOTA KINABALU: The police must act on the unprovoked attack that led to an ugly fracas at the Kota Kinabalu International Airpor terminal on Sunday in order to ensure public confidence on the government.

Parti Solidariti Tanahairku (Star) Datuk Dr Jeffrey Kitingan said that such brawls should never be tolerated nor condoned especially if they occur at public places such as at international airports terminals where foreign tourists and businessmen come in and out.

“Due to handphone cameras, the incident became viral on social media and is now worldwide news,” Dr Jeffrey said. “Imagine the poor impression about Malaysia registered on the minds of foreigners! Any confidence they might have had on the standard of our security would have been crushed. If the government takes the incident lightly, international perception on our seriousness over such hooliganism would be further eroded further.

The Member of Parliament for Keningau and assemblyman for Tambunan warned that should the PSS be implemented, this sort of hooliganism would be common sight, what with the arrogance now displayed by immigrants.

“The incident should have now raise alarm on the part of Malaysian Airports about the level of its airport security and their competence in speedy reactions to such sudden fracas,” Dr. Jeffrey added.

“As we can see in the viral videos, the whole fracas went on without security guards or policemen swooping in to break it up. This has raised a huge question of our airports security system. What if there is a more serious fight or attack, including a shootout? What is the airports security SOP, if any?

“The issue of the standard of control and security management of the international airport of the city is now under question following the incident.

“Papagomo suspected his attackers were carrying weapons when about 30 people attacked him, causing him to fall to the ground and being kicked by many.

One of the hooligans is said to have been a prisoner once, arrested for crimes involving death,” Dr. Jeffrey added.

“Hence he should be booked. Malaysia cannot afford to have a gangster under the protection of any party.

“These cheap criminals should be stripped of their nationality and expelled,” Dr. Jeffrey said.
