Sabah look to force draw in TNB hockey league

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah’s girls will be hoping for a better outing when they take on PKS Uniten in the TNB Malaysia Hockey League match at the Kota Kinabalu Sports Complex hockey pitch today (Tuesday).

The Sukma bound team was thrashed 1-9 by Hockademy KL in their previous match at the same venue on Saturday.

It was also their second defeat in the competition after the opening 0-3 loss to Terengganu Ladies HT followed by the one-all draw with Mutiara Impian-MSSPP-PSHA in the second match.

Assistant coach Hasrul Jideh, who is also the assistant manager said on Monday that they will try to force a draw for a share of the points, or otherwise they would try to minimise the losing margin.

The good were presented by Raja Ashman Shah AHF-MHC Hockey Academy Chairman Dato Abdul Rahim Mohd Ariff on Sunday.

“We are very appreciative of the generosity by Raja Ashman Shah AHF-MHC Hockey Academy to give us the items.

“It was a much needed support as Sabah is committed and will give our best in the development of hockey at both the elite and grassroots levels, and we hope this sponsorship can help inspire the younger generation to be more interested in hockey,” he said.

In his brief address, Abdul Rahim said he was impressed with the rise of Sabah hockey lately and believe the State is on the right path to achieve further success.

“Sabah’s feat of winning their first-ever gold medal in Sukma Perak in 2018 was phenomenonal. It did not happen overnight and I believe the sports school here (Sekolah Sukan Malaysia Sabah) have done a very good job.

Abdul Rahim accompanied by his secretary, Selvakumaran Madasamy, also laid out the vision and mission of the Raja Ashman Shah AHF-MHC Hockey Academy, which according to him is to produce world standard coaches, umpires and technical officials.

“Our mission is to develop coaches, umpires, technical officials and other leaders of calibre, capable of promoting the game and pushing Asian hockey up to the world and Olympic medal contention standards,” he said.
