Shafie launches plan to boost Kadamaian socio-economic development
KOTA BELUD: The Kadamaian Development Plan 2020-2035, which aims to boost the socio-economic development in the constituency to be on par with other developed constituencies, was launched at Kadamaian Square Hall in Taginambur, about half-an-hour drive from town, Sunday.

Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal, who officiated the launching of the plan, also approved a RM1 million additional allocation for the implementation of the Taginambur Tamu Development Phase 2 project, which is part of the Kadamaian development initiative.

The Kadamaian Development Plan, an initiative by Rural Development Minister Datuk Ewon Benedick as Kadamaian Assemblyman, was based on a study done jointly by the Institute for Development Studies (IDS), Kota Belud District Office, Kadamaian UPPM Office and Kadamaian Assemblyman’s Office, using the Assemblyman touchpoint allocation of RM68,000.

“I hope this plan will become a guidance to all ministries, government departments and agencies in the effort to deliver rapid development in the rural area,” said Shafie at the launching held during the Kadamaian Christmas Open House and New Year celebration as well as official opening of the newly-completed hall.

During last year’s Kadamaian Christmas and New Year celebration, Shafie approved RM1 million for the implementation of Taginambur Tamu Development Phase 1 for turning the Taginambur township tamu ground as an economic centre and meeting place for Kadamaian constituents.

Phase one involved construction of the Kadamaian Square Hall and Rural Entrepreneurship Centre Complex, among others.

The phase two involves putting concrete on the Kadamaian riverbank, building children playground and Walai Kadamaian, which is a rest house for tourists equipped with a cafeteria and Kadamaian tourism information centre that will be promoted as a rural tourism transit centre.

Hoping all these amenities will be fully used by all the people and not only those who goes to the tamu as well as for organising various activities, Shafie said the plan is in lined with the Government effort to bring development progress to the rural area.

Ewon, in his speech, said the said master plan is very important because it is inputs of the Kadamaian people.

The development plan was in lined with the Chief Minister’s aspiration when he tabled the State Budget for 2020 for every district to have their respective development plan.

“This plan includes my vision to develop Kadamaian based on two main economic sectors namely agriculture and tourism which must be supported with upgraded basic infrastructure facilities (asphalt road/concrete, electricity supply, water supply and telecommunication, as well as a network of rural entrepreneurship facilities,” he said.

Ewon said the government had spent over RM10 million for developing small basic infrastructure facilities in Kadamaian since nearly two years ago.

But still, he said, there are many dreams of the Kadamaian people that need to be fulfilled including getting large-scale basic infrastructure facilities, particularly upgrading of roads to asphalt road.

Mohd Shafie also presented a RM100,000 contribution to the Kota Belud (Kadamaian) Council of Churches for those churches in need during the event.

Both Deputy Chief Ministers, Datuk Wilfred Madius Tangau and Datuk Christina Liew, Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change Deputy Minister, Isnaraissah Munirah Majilis, Assistant Rural Development Ministers, Rasinin Koutis and Haji Dumi Pg Hj Masdal, among others, were also present.
