Chamber’s call to be positive but cautious
SEMPORNA: Vice-chairman of Semporna Chinese Chamber of Commerce Dr Chaw Tet Loong urged all business merchants and entrepreneurs to continue to be positive but cautious. 

Chaw since 2019, the downturn and poor market conditions have caused a very negative situation, not only among businessmen but the consumers. 

The weak economic trends and price hike have led to high living costs. People from all walks of industries have been hit.

He was speaking at a Chinese New Year festive 2020 celebration held at the Dragon Inn Floating Resort, Ocean Tourism Center Portlaoise here recently with a participation of more than 300 members together with families, relatives and friends. 

Guest of honour was chairman of the Chamber, Datuk Seri Panglima Gan Sau Wah. Also present were the Semporna District Officer Benedict Asmat, the chamber legal adviser Chong Chui Lin and some invited guests.

Gan hoped all Chinese merchants could unite and be kind to others ethnics as well as working together in promoting our country’s economics and harmony.

“We also specially invite a famous lion troupe- Yi Wen Lion Dance Group from Tawau to perform in that evening and it is our pleasure to see everyone is happy during Chinese New Year festive,” he added.

For ‘big ang pao’ lucky draws, the first prize was RM1,388, followed by RM888 and RM688. The grand luxury prize at the night was a 49” television while the second prize was a branded dual-door fridge and a sport-bicycle for the third prize.– Christy Chok
