Coach to focus on U-19 players’ fitness

KOTA KINABALU: State Youth Cup head coach Johnny Dominicus will focus fully on the fitness of his players in the coming weeks before their final preparation for the start of the new season on February 23.
The former Sukma winning coach who has been given the task to take charge of the Under-19 squad this season said it is important to get the players fit before applying any tactical training.

“Fitness and body conditioning is very important for the players.
“We only have few weeks to prepare the team so we need to get the players in shape before any tactical training for them hopefully in the final two weeks before the start of the new season.
“Once they are physically fit enough, I don’t think there will be any problem for the team and we may also try to get them to play one or two friendly matches during this time in order for us to find the right combination,” he said on Monday.
Johnny also expressed his gratitude to Sabah Football Association (Safa) for their trust in him to coach the team.

His assistant is Mohd Faisal Ahmad with Jasrih Jabidin as the goalkeeper coach and Awang Jasrie Awang Matusin is the fitness coach.

Meanwhile, the names of 25 the players to be finalised is expected to be released by Safa later this week.

Sabah has been drawn in Group B in this season’s campaign with the company of JDT IV, Selangor, Sarawak United, Melaka, Negeri Sembilan, Kuala Lumpur, PJ City FC, UiTM FC and UKM FC.
