Ranau teen lost in woods four days

Atliano Brendon, 19, from Kg Poring was found weak and hungry about three kilometres from an oil palm estate shed in Kg Tikilod Kirokot Ranau, where he was last seen by several friends.

District Police Chief DSP Sammy Newton said that on Jan 25, the victim went out of the shed and headed for the nearby river to fish, but failed to return in the evening.

“Efforts to look for the victim were initiated by friends, family members, villagers as well as the authority concerned like the Fire and Rescue Department, police personnel, APM and Rela. However after searching for over two days, no trace of the victim was found.

“Search and rescue operation were conducted across the palm oil estate as well as the surrounding forest by over a hundred people divided into groups.

“Fortunately on the third day, at about 2.17pm, a group of rescuers stumbled upon him,” he said.

Sammy said the victim was then handed over to the medical team. It was not known how he managed to survive on his own.
