RM30m Putatan projects to start
PUTATAN: Four federal-funded development projects which local residents here have been looking forward will kick off this year.

Putatan MP Awang Husaini Datuk Sahari (pic) said the projects costing over RM30 million comprise a district Fire and Rescue Station proposed under the previous government, a Central Market building, a mini stadium and a wet market with a new tamu ground.

“The Federal Government has provided the approved funding for the projects but there was a delay due to issues over land for the projects to be provided by the State Government and preparation of documents for tendering of the projects.

“Now, all these matters have been sorted out and I am proud to say that the land issue for the long-awaited RM8.8 million Putatan Fire and Rescue Station project has been settled.

“In fact, the Public Work Department (PWD) is in the final stage of preparing necessary documents for tendering of this project, which is expected to be done next month,” he told Daily Express when met at his parliamentary office here.

Husaini said the second project is construction of a RM8.8 million mini stadium, the tender for which has been put out, with the closing date on Feb 12 this year.

“In a month or two, the project will be awarded to a contractor and construction work will commence once the funds are available to make this project a reality,” he said.

The third project, Husaini said, involves upgrading the Central Market here at a cost of RM3.8 million that has been tendered out and awaiting to be awarded in a month or two.

He said the Central Market would also function as a handicraft centre so as to provide opportunities for small-time traders producing local products to market their products.

“The fourth project is building a new wet market with tamu ground costing RM12 million at the beach near a jetty in Kg Pasir Putih.

“This project is to facilitate fishermen and residents to buy fresh fish and seafood at the jetty where the fishermen could land their boats to sell off their catch directly to consumers or sell them at the wet market.

“This project would be tendered out in March this year,” Husaini said.

To a question, he said construction of the four projects would commence and be completed this year for benefit of the people, especially from here.

He said he would ensure smooth implementation and systematic development of the projects towards achieving his efforts towards the district undergoing city-level development and to be in line with his vision of “Bandar Terancang untuk Putatan” (A planned City development for Putatan).

Meanwhile, Husaini said the Federal Government via the Health Ministry has approved funding of RM1.7 million to set up a health clinic in Pulau Gaya.

He said the ministry is waiting for a suitable site to be provided by the State Government for the project.
