Specialist eye centre opens at T1 Bundusan

PENAMPANG: EyeMedics Sdn Bhd, an ambulatory specialist eye centre, officially opened its doors at T1 Bundusan, here, Saturday.
Its founder Dr Terrence Soong, who is a consultant ophthalmic surgeon and retinal specialist, said it is the first of its kind to unveil in Penampang, which offers treatment for various eye diseases such as cataract, glaucoma, uveitis, retinal detachment, diabetic retinopathy and myopia, among others.

“I offer advanced complex cataract surgery. I’ve also advanced my services for myopia, which is short-sightedness in children.
“There is a high number of myopia in children, in school many kids are now wearing spectacles and their optical power is not like before which was low. Now it is very high, so I offer services to treat that as well,” he told a press conference at his office during the centre’s grand opening, here, Saturday.
Dr Terrence added that his main goal of establishing the centre is to offer affordable international-standard services.
“For the price range, I won’t price my services as high as the private hospitals. My motivation is to provide affordable eye care but at international standards.

“I have been trained in three different continents; Asia, Europe and Australia. So with all this experience, I hope to provide such services at an affordable cost,” he said.
In conjunction with the centre’s grand opening, Dr Terrence will be offering an introductory price for its most common service, which is cataract surgery.

“(Normal cataract surgery) starts at RM3,500. But as we open there’s a new introductory price, for the first three months it will be RM2,899,” he said.
The centre will also be offering a free consultation and vision screening for two weeks starting Tuesday (Feb 4).
It will be on a walk-in basis and the public may visit the centre at its operating hours from 9am to 4.30pm.
Dr Terrence, who originally hails from Johor Baru, studied medicine in Manchester, United Kingdom (UK) and underwent an eight-year basic specialty training at teaching hospitals in the UK within the field of ophthalmology.
