“The consignment was seized when the importer failed to produce the complete import permits upon inspection by our personnel and the Customs Department,” he said.
Nazrul said bringing in unpermitted produce is an offence under Section 11 (1) of the Quarantine and Inspection Services Act of Malaysia 2011 (Act 728) where those found guilty could be fined not exceeding RM100,000 or jailed for up to six years, or both. He said the seized consignment had undergone thorough inspection by his department as well as the Customs Department, to ensure that it was not contaminated.
