Clogged Manggatal drain
CITY HALL has been notified about the need to clear the thick vegetation clogging the passageway for the earth drain at Lorong Buah Pinang in Taman Tebobon, Manggatal.

The drain which linked to the housing drain is claimed to have never been cleared by any authority, despite the fact that other parts of the structure had been regularly maintained by its caretaker.

“It’s really puzzling, because they service the concrete drain in this neighbourhood but neglected this particular one,” said VUN, whose house is located just next to it.

He said the drain needs to the attended to soon as possible in view of the foul smell emanating from that area.

“The smell is especially overwhelming during a long period of dry days where I can detect it from my compound,” he added.

He stressed that clearing the contents of the concrete drains in the neighbourhood is a pointless effort when the earth drain is ignored.

“Water will flow out from this area if the vegetation is cleared,” he said, who is also sure that rubbish is hidden beneath the tall weeds in that area.

He added that presence of rubbish in the passageway has worsened the situation.

“It’s no wonder that monitor lizards can be seen emerging from that area from time to time,” he said.

A City Hall spokeswoman, when contacted, assured that its staff at the relevant department would be asked to inspect the condition of the drain in that housing estate soon as possible.

“Allow us to see it first before commenting further,” she added.

She said work to clear its passageway would be carried out once it had determined the severity of the problem. Hotline would follow up on the case again later.  (OV)
