Filipino attacking police with machete shot in Kunak

KUNAK: Police shot and injured a Filipino man who attacked policemen with a machete during their Ops Ice Breaker at Tingkayu Estate, here, Thursday.

Kunak District Police Chief Baharin Md Tahir said the 22-year-old man was injured in the left and right shoulder and police also seized 17.25g of suspected Syabu worth RM2,587.50 in the 4.00am incident.

He said Kunak police Narcotics Crime Investigation Department was conducting surveillance when they spotted a suspicious man holding a machete and wearing a bag around his waist.

"When the police approached and introduced themselves, the suspect ran towards them, swinging his machete, forcing the policemen to fire two shots at the suspect in self defence," Bernama reported Baharin as saying Saturday.

Police found a cigarette pack containing the suspected Syabu on the man, who had prior criminal records under Sections 12(2) and 15(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
