Damaged slabs on Penampang road replaced
THE PUBLIC Works Department (PWD) contractor has installed a new reinforced concrete (RC) cover on several sections of the roadside drain along Jalan Bundusan Duta in Penampang, on Feb 6.

A concerned member of the public who frequents the area on foot, told Hotline not too long ago that the damaged slabs which left several gaping holes on the drain, were posing a safety risk to pedestrians.

“Pedestrians are risk being knock down by a car when they stepping on the tarmac surface in attempt to walk around these damaged slabs on the drain.

“A lot of people are walking on top of these sealed drain because it also serves as a walkway,”said ANDY, who works at the nearby shop.

He said there were more than five huge damaged slabs along that drain previously.

“This problem must be attended to without delay as some irresponsible passersby are treating the holes as a dumpster.

“I hope the caretaker of the structure will take the initiative to clear the drain passageway before installing new lids,” he added.

A PWD spokesman, when contacted recently, said its contractor had done the job recently.

“We were fully aware of the problem as we had spotted the problem during our routine inspection in that part of the district several months ago,” he added.

He said the drain clearing also included in the work scope.

“We wish to remind motorists, especially those driving a four-wheel-drive to refrain using the area to park their vehicle.

“The weight of their car may cause damage to the structure,” he added.  (OV)
