Sandakan boats collision: Missing cop's body found

SANDAKAN: The body of a policeman who went missing after a collision of two boats in Sandakan waters on Thursday has been found.

Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency Sandakan Director Captain Zainudin Mohd Zuki said Corporal Asman Ongkal (pictured) was found at 6.22pm Friday by fishermen some 1km from the location of the collision.

The former General Force Operations member was found still fully clothed, said Zainudin, adding family had positively identified the body.

Asman’s remains has been taken to the Duchess of Kent Hospital and police have taken over the matter, added Zainudin.

Sandakan police chief ACP Mohd Azhar Hamin said the case is being investigated under Section 304A of the Penal Code for causing death by negligence.

Asman went missing after rescuing fellow passengers including his son after the boat they were travelling in from Pulau Kampung Tanjung Aru to the Sandakan town jetty collided with the other vessel.
