Melissa bags top prize at City Day Open Regatta
Kota Kinabalu: Melissa Yong captured the top prize in the 21st City Day Open Regatta held at the Kinabalu Yacht Club (KYC) on Sunday.

The KYC sailor with Mohd Faizal Mohd Shakir as crew member won the International 470 overall title ahead of veteran category winner Leonard Chin and crew Tania William with Mohd Helmi Jasman/Razlan Ramli in third place.

Both Melissa and Helmi were the open class winners with Thomas Kong/Andrew Moligan in third place while the veteran class runners-up spot went to John Andrew Malthouse/Aisah Chong  followed by Michael R Hastie/Lee Kar Yarn & Dr Ho Siang Boon in third.

In the Laser 420 class, the winner was Zaifah Zairie Haidy Zainal while the top three winners in the Laser 4.7 were Mohd Shahieran Raiman, Syahzharoul Aiman Rozaiman and Evan Teo Hao Yang.

Muhd Afiq Irsyad Adam took the Laser Open title beating Nasiruddin Harun and Muhd Zahimulhakim Zainal in second and third place.

Afiq and Nasiruddin were also the top two finishers in the Laser Radial class with Velan Grant in third while Zahimulhakim was the winner in the Laser Standard class.

The Windsurf Race Open title was won by Nick Boura followed by Abidin Aliakbar and Mitchell Cini.

Prof. Dr Jason Teo Tze Wi, Hanafee Latif and Mohd Fadzlin Hassan finished as the top three winners in the Starboard Phantom 295 class while the Techno Open class was won by Mohd Azmi Mohd Kahmis with Lucqmann Racheed in second.

In the Windsurfing Novice Open class, women’s winner Amabel Seo Min Hui came top by beating men’s winner Brandon Yap Zhen Xian with Sandeep Songh Gill in third place.

In third place behind Brandan and Sandeep in the men’s class was Koh Yeh Siang while Jennisfer Chin Kui Fun and Tomoko Yokoyama finished second and third in the women’s class.

Amabel also clinched the Stand Up Paddle (SUP) women title followed by Reina Yin and Tomoko with the top three winners  in the men class were Nick Boura, Wilson Goh and Muhd Fadzlin Hassan. 

In the Canoe Single Men class, the top spot went to Wong Yun  Hann with Koh Cheng Hsing and Hanafee Latip in second and third spot respectively.

The Optimist Open title was won by Mohd Syahieradham Raiman with second and third place going to Zeti Idina Zainal and Wong Xiang, and all three winners also finished in the top three spots in the A division. 

Syahieradham and Wong also claimed the top two places in the Men’s class with Laurenz Leonardo Daim in third, while Zeti took the women’s title followed by Nur Awatid Safri and Kee Aleanan Abdullah.

The B division title went to Nur Hafizahanani Zailan followed by Kee Aleana Adbullah and Bibi Qeensha Mohd Faizal.

Muhd If-Titah Andi was the winner in C division, second place went to Muhd Aiman Aqeel Mohd Firdaus and Elizabeth Wong Xin Ni in third.

In the Novice Overall, the title was won by Ziqri Luqman Zainal with Danyal Marczqui Rahmat Haron and Nascar Chong Na Jia in second and third place.

Some 100 sailors from nine teams took part in the annual event and Minister of International Trade and Industry Datuk Darell Leiking was the guest of honour in the closing ceremony and he also gave away the main prizes.
