CITY Hall has been notified about the penchant for certain parties of monopolising the parking spaces at Jalan Ewan and Jalan Haji Saman in the city.

A concerned office worker whose office is at Wisma Perkasa, told Hotline recently that several designated parking spaces there have often been monopolised by certain individuals and also by business proprietors.

“Their selfishness and irresponsible act has prevented others from occupying that spaces,” stressed BREY, the complainant, who had to park his car illegally in that area due the problem.

He said these errant parties had “reserved” more than three parking spaces in that area in most days.

“Many will follow suit if the relevant authority is turning a blind eye on the matter,” he added.

In view of the scarcity of parking spaces especially during the noon’s peak hours, he said the selfish act of these individuals had forced many motorists leaving behind their car at undesignated area.

“We are at risk of getting summoned by the traffic policeman for parking our car on the public walkway, road divider or double parking,” he added.

A City Hall spokeswoman, when contacted recently, said its staff at the relevant department would be notified about the matter soon as possible.

“Monopolising a parking space which meant for public use is prohibited unless he or she has been granted approval to use the space within certain hours,” she added.

She said its enforcement officers would be asked to keep an eye on the situation there from time to time.  (OV)
