LAHAD DATU: A viral photo of a Palauh kid pointing a gun at a motorist while begging at the Bandar Sri Perdana traffic light on Wednesday spurred police into action with 15 of them being detained.

One internet user wrote “Palauh Makin Mengganas (Palauh getting aggressive)” . Police launched Ops Kesan/Ops Cantas at the area about 10 minutes after the photo went viral.

District Police Chief, ACP Nasri Mansor said upon arrival, the team nabbed four women aged between 24 and 31 along with their children (five boys and six girls) for not possessing identification documents.

“Preliminary investigation found that the gun held by the Palauh kid was a toy given by his mother. All those detained were brought to Lahad Datu police headquarters for further action. We will get verification from the Immigration Department on the status of documents as well as travel records for the individuals,” he said.

Nasri added that the case was being investigated under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.
