KOTA KINABALU: A motorcyclist and his pillion on a stolen motorcycle rammed into a four-wheel drive while trying to evade police near the Rampayan traffic light along Jalan UMS, here, Saturday. They died on the spot.

City Police Chief ACP Habibi Majinji said both victims, aged 18 and 14, were pronounced dead at the scene in the 10.45am tragedy. The Motorcycle Patrol Unit (URB) initially spotted the duo acting in a suspicious manner as they were coming out from Kg Gudon.

“Upon seeing the URB police, the suspects sped off, which led my men to chase after them. As they approached Kg Rampayan, the suspects continue to speed and beat the traffic light and rammed into an Isuzu D-Max that was making a turn into a junction,” he said.

Both were thrown from the motorcycle and died at the scene while the Isuzu driver, 46, escaped unhurt.

Habibi said investigations revealed that the victims were riding a motorcycle that was reported stolen in Menggatal on Jan. 26.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
