BEAUFORT: Beaufort Member of Parliament, Datuk Azizah Mohd Dun is committed to making the district a world-class tourist destination with a number of new tourism packages.
She said the area had great potential as it had many natural resources needed to realise the plan.

She added that discussions were held with Tourism Malaysia as well as several local agencies and associations to ensure that the goal is achieved.
“We plan to develop new areas of tourism such as extreme sports tourism like mountain bike activities, river rafting and international-class triathlons that are of interest to the world today.
“We will also promote cultural festivals as well as the uniqueness of the local culture,” she said.
She said this after officiating the appreciation ceremony for the success of the Istanbul Gastronomy Festival 2019 and the Sabah Games (Saga 2019) at the Beaufort Community College, here.

Azizah said she was confident that the plan could be implemented with the construction of Club Med’s inaugural Sabah resort in Kg Tanjung Aru, Kuala Penyu, near here, which is expected to be ready by 2022.
She added the Club Med brand of resorts, which is one of the world’s leading hotel chains, would be a catalyst for tourism development in Beaufort.

“Collaboration is needed to open up a huge economic opportunity to the local community whether in business or employment,” she said.
