Man killed in Tuaran crash

TUARAN: A 22-year-old driver was killed and his younger brother injured in an accident which resulted in their vehicle splitting into two at Jalan Tuaran-Kota Kinabalu, Kg Bakut, near here, Sunday.
The victim, identified as Azahari Azmi, is believed to have been trapped inside the Perodua Kancil before he was pronounced dead at the scene in the 11.05am incident.

The injured boy, 12, fractured his right arm.
Tuaran Police Chief DSP Mohd Hamizi Halim, who confirmed the incident, said initial investigation showed the victims were heading towards Kota Kinabalu from Bulatan Berungis.
“The driver is believed to have lost control of the vehicle before crashing onto the road divider and hitting a tree.
“The car split into two as a result of the impact, causing the driver to be trapped inside. He was later pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene,” he added.

He said police would investigate if the car that had been previously cut.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Head of the Fire and Rescue Station here, Abdul Qawie Abdul Gapar, said they received an emergency call at 11.53am and deployed eight personnel to the location along with two fire trucks.

He said the team extricated the trapped driver who was later pronounced dead, adding the operation ended at 1.14pm.
