Army Day to feature never-seen-before activities
KOTA KINABALU: The 87th Malaysia Army Day that ends here March 1 features a line-up of never-seen-before activities starting from Feb 25 to March 1.

Visitors will be treated to variety of performances, exhibitions, sports carnivals as well as competition during the five-day ceremony.

The final of the “Battle of The Band” competition for public category will be held on Feb 25 while for army category o Feb 26 at 8pm, Padang Merdeka.

Fifth Division commander, Major General Mohamad Khir Abdullah said the public are also welcomed to participate in the sports carnival as well as “Sure Heboh” event on Feb 28 at Stadium Likas.

“There will be 52 booths from various public agencies including army booths that will showcase army assets, medical check-up, strong-man show and band performances, among others,” he said in a press conference after the blood donation campaign closing held in conjunction with the 87th Army Day at Imago.

According to him, the grand finale on Feb 29 will present Sabahans something they may have never seen before.

“For the first time ever, we are bringing the Army Red Warrior Acrobatic Team for one exciting show specifically for the people of Sabah,” he said adding that they estimate about 20 thousand people to come.

Mohamad Khir said 18 parachutists would make the jump at 12 midnight.

“In addition, the public will be treated to the military tattoo, which is a music performance involving theatrics and musical by the armed forces,” he said.

Meanwhile, 500 bags of blood were harvested during the “Battle Group Convoi” blood donation event, which began in Tawau on Jan 19.

“We are expecting to harvest another 300 more bags today’s campaign,” he said.

He said the blood donation campaign was held in conjunction with the 87th anniversary of the Army Day with the concept of “Medical Civic Action Programme” in collaboration with various agencies.

“The campaign ends here (Kota Kinabalu) while in June a blood donation campaign will be organised by the army nationwide,” he said.
