CM wants DOs to go beyond normal work
KOTA KINABALU: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal wants all district officers to go beyond what is needed to be done in helping Sabah to develop as fast as possible and compete with other states in the country.

“We must have sense of responsibilities. It is not enough for us to just clock in and clock out daily. We must go beyond the normal norms of doing our responsibilities.

“When duty calls, whenever we are needed, we should rise and come to attend it and provide whatever available services there are.

“It depends on us if we want to see Sabah develop as fast as possible and can compete with the other states. We as the manager and administrator must take note of all that are needed by people at the grassroots level, so we can make them our priorities.

“These priorities then can be included in the planning which can be brought up to the State Government central level through discussions which are always being held by the State Secretary or the Finance Ministry...the Government will ensure that these priorities will be accorded appropriate attention,” he said.

He said this when officiating the 24th State-level District Officers Conference 2020 at Pacific Sutera, here, Monday.

Shafie, who is also the Finance Minister, also launched the Rural Development Ministry’s (KPLB) Village Profile Application System during the event, which is meant for managing development data of each village throughout Sabah.

The system developed by the Sabah State Economic Planning Unit, in collaboration with Sabah.Net, has now begun to be used at district offices and the application, among others, serves as a database for the development of every village throughout the State.

At the event, Shafie also launched the Sabah Rural Development Strategic Plan 2021-2025 covering eight main thrusts, policy statements, strategies and programmes.

Earlier, Ewon, in his speech, said the plan was drafted, among others, to achieve the goal of reducing poverty rates as well as basic infrastructure development, social amenities and human capital of rural communities during the implementation of the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP).

“Once launched, the plan will serve as the main guide to the Sabah Rural Development Ministry and the district office in making the 12MP a success,” he said.

Deputy Chief Ministers Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau, Datuk Dr Jaujan Sambakong and Datuk Christina Liew, among others, were also present.
