'Malaysia’s potential to be Asia-Pacific cybersecurity hub'

Kuala Lumpur: Malaysia has the potential to be a cybersecurity hub within the Asia-Pacific region, said Austrian Ambassador to Malaysia, Dr Michael Postl.He said Malaysia’s strategic geographical location within the Asia-Pacific region, coupled with its cybersecurity professionals and talent who are found to be hard working, English-speaking, and working in harmony are positive traits which bode well for the country.

“I have been impressed with Malaysia’s digital economy, which contributed 18.3 per cent of gross domestic product in 2018, and how it has emerged as an engine of growth for the country.
“Digitisation offers key technologies for the development of economic as well as social innovations.
“Like Malaysia, Austria also places great emphasis on the digital economy and has since implemented “Digital Roadmap Austria,” he said.
He said this in his speech at the launch of TÜV Austria Cybersecurity Lab Sdn Bhd, an Austrian-Malaysian joint-venture (JV) between TÜV Trust IT, a member of the TÜV Austria Group, and Malaysia’s LE Global Services Sdn Bhd (LGMS), here today.

Under the partnership, TÜV Austria Cybersecurity Lab will house a global cybersecurity testing and certification Centre of Excellence (CoE) to serve both the domestic and international markets.
TÜV Austria group is an international testing, inspection and certification company with a presence in more than 20 countries, and generates some €220 million (€1=RM4.67) in annual revenue.

LGMS is one of the region’s leading end-to-end cybersecurity firms which has been accredited with multiple certifications and recognitions, including International Data Corporation (IDC), which has recognised LGMS as one of the world’s leading Internet-of-Things key penetration testing vendors in its report in 2019.
Meanwhile, LGMS group managing director Fong Choong Fook said that TÜV Austria would be instrumental in helping organisations identify vulnerabilities within their IT (information technology) infrastructure before recommending measures to maintain and improve their security levels
