All 179 KD Lekiu crew to undergo Covid-19 tests

Kota Kinabalu: The 179 KD Lekiu officers and personnel of the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) who are accompanying the Petronas floating LNG vessel from South Korea to Sabah will be screened for Covid-19 when it arrives at the Kota Kinabalu Base Station (TPKK) on March 5 (today). KD Lekiu is escorting the Floating Liquefied Natural Gas 2 (PFLNG 2) from Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) jetty in Geoje-Do, Busan.

South Korea now has the second highest number of Coronavirus cases outside China at 5,621 and 32 deaths.
After 16 days of sailing, KD Lekiu would approach to dock at TPKK to refuel and restock supplies before sailing back to the RMN base in Lumut.
As a proactive measure to ensure the safety, RMN has a planned measures soon as the KD Lekiu approaches TPKK.
They include Covid-19 test sampling for all officers and personnel on board with the help of Sabah Ministry of Health and send all samples taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital where the test results would take four to 12 hours. At the same time the crew would be quarantined within the ship.

Once the result is available, anyone tested positive would be quarantined in QEH while those tested negative would be allowed to continue their journey back to Lumut where a second screening will be done.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.
