Python caught but bigger one escapes
The python caught.
LABUAN: A python measuring over three metres was caught by Civil Defence (APM) officers at Kampung Tanjung Aru here on Tuesday. However, a larger one managed to escape.

According Major (PA) Zico Sual, his team received a distress call from one of the villagers at 6pm Tuesday.

He said the villager was clearing up the clutter of shrubs in his backyard with an excavator when he spotted the two massive pythons.

The man immediately alerted the Civil Defence Department.

“We believe he might have destroyed the nest of the pythons while he was digging through the mess,” he said.

Zico said his personnel along with volunteers successfully caught one of the pythons.

“Unfortunately, we were not able to catch the other snake, which was larger in size, as it managed to quickly escape through the mess,” he said.

He added that the python will be handed over to the Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan) for further action.  – Iffah Dilaney
