RM46,000 boost for Ranau student athletes

RANAU: School sports contingents and winners in the last School Sports Council (MSS) Sports Tournament received incentives worth RM46,000 from Ranau MP Jonathan Yasin on Friday.Of this amount, RM10,000 went to the district’s MSS to cover contingent expenses at the Sabah State Level MSS Championship from March 10-14, at the Lahad Datu Sports Complex.ADVERTISEMENT
Also receiving incentives were Ranau District MSS champion of the Secondary School category SMK Mat Salleh which received RM10,000, SMK Lohan as runner-up received RM7,000 and third place SMK Timbua receiving RM5,000.
Meanwhile, the overall winner of the Primary School Zone category was Pekan Zone which received RM7,000, runner-up East Zone received RM4,000 and third place Northern Zone received RM3,000.
An incentive handing ceremony was held at the Ranau Parliamentary Office and was personally delivered by Jonathan to Assistant District Education Officer, Student Development Sector Robert Unsik while the Primary School Zone category was represented by the Head Masters cum Zone Chairmen.
Jonathan, who is also Chairman of the Malaysian Cocoa Board, relies on the Ranau District MSS Contingent, to utilise the available financial assistance to ease the burden of the Ranau Contingent Committee to state-level tournament.ADVERTISEMENT
“I hope the donation can be used as much as possible to lighten the financial burden of the MSSD Ranau contingent, in the hope that athletes can win as many gold medals in the name of MSSD Ranau.
“So do our hopes for the Primary School Zone, to capitalise on the existing donations to cover the cost of sports programmes that we think are necessary to improve sports performance at the school and their respective zones,” added Jonathan.

Earlier, Robert expressed his appreciation and gratitude for Jonathan’s generous donation to the Ranau MSSD contingent to the State Championship and his contribution to the MSS Primary School Zone.
“The financial contribution will motivate the Ranau District MSS to strive to improve the performance of Ranau district level sports, to produce outstanding athletes to achieve success at state, national and international levels,” Robert said.
